Thailand’s “Green Transition”: Implications of the EU Green Deal and improving EU-Thailand Trade Relations
Thailand is positioning itself as a regional leader in sustainable development through a green transition agenda that aligns with global climate commitments and national economic goals. The country has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emissions by 2065, supported by initiatives in renewable energy, electric vehicles, sustainable agriculture, and circular economy practices. While significant progress has been made in policy design and private sector engagement, challenges remain in financing, regulatory enforcement, and technological capacity.
Strengthening international partnerships, fostering innovation, and ensuring inclusive participation are essential to accelerate the transition. A just and effective green transformation will require coordinated action across sectors and levels of government, alongside strong public-private collaboration to ensure both environmental sustainability and economic resilience.
