Driving Growth and Food Security: A New Direction for Indonesia’s Livestock Industry 2025–2027
Indonesia’s livestock industry is emerging as a strategic growth engine in the national development agenda, transitioning from a supplementary role to a key driver of food security, rural development, and export competitiveness. Supported by favorable policy momentum and strong data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Statistics Indonesia, the sector shows robust recovery with projected average growth of 5.7% through 2027. Rising domestic demand, diverse livestock genetics, and expanding export opportunities—particularly in poultry and processed animal products—underscore its economic potential. However, challenges persist, including small-scale inefficiencies, import dependency for feed, and climate-related risks. The government’s push for corporatization, digitalization, local feed innovation, and targeted fiscal support aims to transform the sector into a modern, resilient, and globally competitive pillar of Indonesia’s agri-food economy.
